Like a zombie in overdrive
I go up the down staircase
a salmon caught in the levee

People rush toward me
swaying to and fro
their eyes staring blankly ahead

Enormous women with endless bags
shoot by like derailed trains
arms akimbo, waists sagging
under the weight of greed

Piped in music yields to
a cacophony of cell phones
Jingle Bells a mere text message

My heart is pounding
My ears are ringing
My feet are aching

Yet, I persevere
running blindly into large posts
tripping over benches
knocking over kiosks

until finally everything comes crashing down
I am sprawled on the cold tile
clutching my emaciated wallet...

Sir...
Uh Sir...
SIR!!!

That'll be $143.62, please!

Buy.

A poem about shopping ~ I'm getting tired already.

Good Humor!

This delightful take on the Season of Good Will really rings my chimes. *grins* I think two words sum everything up nicely ~ "emaciated wallet." Fun and a delight to read.

LOL! I wanted to write about these big butts getting in my way when I was shopping for Christmas, but I swear I have writers block. I sweated and panicked when shopping alone, and when I got home, I felt like I was going to pass out. The shit we had to deal with before getting to the cashier! Ack! I decided to shop for the rest online. I did much better. :)

I hope you're not bruised anywhere!

Awesome poem, sack. I felt I was right there with you. I enjoyed.
