The night is young
     but I am not
nor am I getting any younger

The silence kills
masking the distance shrieks of laughter
while murdering my mind and my heart

A faucet drips
     the rhythm agonizingly mundane
resonating with a sameness in my ears

The sameness stands
     commanding my attention
     consuming my mind
     shredding my heart
     enveloping me in darkness
as it tries to extinguish the light of hope

Yet there she stands
     a beacon in the night
a voice of calm and reason
a vision of beauty and companionship

     ...yet I cannot reach her
...and I wonder if I ever will...

Hope.

Living in hope ~ only to die in despair when love doesn't materialize.

~~

A depressing read of hope so tantalizingly near but never to be reached.
