Nine grim reapers give the nod
to liberating us from our freedom
These black robed besmirchers
of those noble souls who came before them

Holmes, Frankfurter, Black, Douglas
Proud defenders of justice for the everyman
Everyman is poorer for the pretenders
to their heritage,  who disappear
In their long shadows.

Assumed guilty without proof,
everyman languishes in his cell
liberty ripped from his birthright
As pseudo- McCarthyites point the finger
And bang the patriotic drum
So loudly the cries of despair from the unjustly imprisoned
can not be heard

And the reapers turn their heads away
Afraid for their own mortality
And wash their hands as Pilate,             Laying the decision at the feet
Of those whom they obscenely enthroned.

Beware Satan who comes dressed as the Saviour
Can you detect his disguise?
The reapers are his agents
Against them we must rise
Before the apocalypse consumes us
