Burden

In his soul there is a contract forged in heaven.
His body is committed to return to the earth.
His heart belongs with us.
The weight of his life hangs heavy on those he left behind
Because the legacy he left was one of love.

We take on his burden in anticipation
when the Lord calls us to join him.
His gaze will be upon us.
He will hold our hands when we grieve,
Push us through when we struggle,
Cheer us on when we survive,
Smile with pride when we triumph.
He is here even when he is not.

The hardest thing is we can feel him
Though we cannot see.
The hardest thing is to send him on his journey
And take joy that he no longer feels pain.
The hardest thing is understanding
Everything must pass.
The hardest thing is living
Through the burden of our love.

We will bear our burden gladly
Even though we grieve.
We will bear is as he bared it
For the ones who left before.
Though our tears are rivers flowing
Through the land that calls him home,
Still we will bear our burden.
We will live and live well for his sake.
We will watch our children grow as he once watched us
And watches us still.
We will go gladly into his embrace when it is our turn
To journey where he dwells.

In his soul there is a contract forged in heaven.
His body is committed to return to the earth.
His heart belongs with us.
The weight of his life hangs heavy on those he left behind
Because the legacy he left was one of love.
