They walk together, charmed through rain and slush,
Her hesitation had been evident
She'd stood there on the steps, hoping the rush
Of her heartbeat would pass him by, content
To hide her blush in the anxiety
At stormy clouds above and the wet road;
His cold glance washed away intimacy
That sharing an umbrella might well goad
In the mind of a girl who was not trained
To understand each nuance as it comes;
And, so, they walked and conversed as it rained,
While he made sure he covered her; his thumbs
Were gripped around the handle and her arm,
So she could feel at ease and he could charm.
