Through the fog and wind and rain, it reaches up so high,
Symbol of the city and the state.
See the people crossing twixt the water and the sky
High above the churning Golden Gate.

Named by Fremont long ago as he was riding past,
Named for gold the 49ers found.
Little did he know how long the name he gave would last,
Longer than the gold was in the ground.

Girders pointing in the air and buried deep below,
Underpinnings holding fast and tight,
Tons and tons of metal, more than anyone can know
Make the bridge a widely famous sight.
