tropical heat
beneath my fingertips
burning my skin
droplets of sweat
around my face
as you hold on to me.

you're shivering
clutching my hands
your head on my shoulder
so hot to touch
while your teeth chatter.

my brow is creased
i run my hands
over your face
searching
for a way to help you
and finding none.

"Do you want to go home?"
worry lines
bite my lip
i don't want to take you
but i'm so worried
so anxious
it's so hot in here
and you're shivering
shivering.

"We can't go yet
I have to tell you something."
Tell me something?
is he delirious?
so worried
you're so hot
too hot and too col.

"What?"
i don't care.
just want you to be better
nothing else
could be more important.

"I'm in love with you."
your first L-word
through fevered lips
i smile
through the worry
closing my eyes
and laughing

"I love you too."

Love fever.

Realistically conveys the feelings of nervousness and physical trepidation which comes with the first declaration of love.

!

I enjoyed the suspense of this work.. although we all know what is being said.. that worry and pain of saying the first "L" word is captured in this moment..

ty for the read
