Balancing
on a knife's blade
running
so I don't fall.

Hanging
off a precipice
clutching
a few blades of grass
knowing
I will drop
and laughing.

Walking the plank
swinging
my hips as I go
throwing my arms wide
to embrace the sea.

I face my fate.
I choose my life.
I roll the dice.

Butterflies
fill my stomach
I stare
at a thoughtful face.

Myself
in a twisted mirror
I see my past
present and future
but I do not weep.

Risking
my pride and confidence
for one person
singing
without knowing
what notes will be played.

I decide my destiny.
I choose the pattern.
I pick the cards.
I draw the lot.
I roll the dice.
I roll the dice.
