Weary with exhaustion
I turn the light out
Crawl into bed
Turn over expecting you to be there
But you’re not

I sigh remembering
You won’t be joining me
Tonight no warm body will share my bed
Cuddle up against me or
Enter the world of dreams with

You’re a thousand miles away
Doing the duties only you can do
I wonder
Are you thinking of me?
Am I etched into your mind, like you are mine?

I turn back over
Resigned to memories of
Your strong body protecting me
Your husky scent playing with my senses
Your sweet nothings warming my heart

Exhaustion has mercy on me
Carries me to the world of dreams
Releasing loneliness’ grip
Peace finds me
Until the morning light
