How long?
How long until we reach those old days?
Those old ways?

Days of fast and hard justice
Days of a jury on the dusty street
Ways of harsh and swift consequent
Ways of gun and rope

Not long?
Not long before procedural bullshit is set aside?
No longer allowed?

Ways of technicalities and loopholes
Ways of plea bargain and payoffs
Days of mistrial by paperwork
Days of mitigating circumstance

Long enough?
Long enough have the evil wheedled away guilt?
Puzzled out law?

Ways out of responsibility
Days off for time served before trial
Ways of jury tampering and mishandling
Days spent endless in runaround trial towards acquittal

Too long?
Too long this broken system has built itself bit by bit.
House of cards?
