It always amazes me
Of course it does
How I dig a hole
In my back yard
Screaming into it
The callow earth is silent

I watch with jealousy
As seeds sprout
Glimmer and grow
Wind rush whispered
As chimes might
If they were planted here

I have no wealth like that
I attempt to grow from seed
All flavors of strange fruit
Only to kill with a promise
Then grieve all night long
It’s oh so easy for others

Someone once said
I was as a wildy bird
Whose words beat the air
With fragile wings of paper
In desperate flight to survive
What does one say to that?
