I was on the beach at Porpoise Spit
I had come down from the town
I bought a new bikini
In the hopes of getting brown
The wind though blew a gale
And the rain sprayed in my face
Still I wore that new bikini
And against the wind did brace
Fake tan now all goose-bumped
Hair blown in disarray
I walked in that new bikini
With straight back and hips that sway
"Stupid bloody tourists,"
Murmured from the life guards mouth
He cupped his hands and yelled to me
"The weathers going south!"
I smiled and waved politely
As if I didn't know
Mother nature had unleashed
Everything but snow
I had made it to the rocks then
Where the sea spray clawed the air
I glanced back along the beach
The lifeguard looked on in despair
I began to climb the slippery slope
Thinking only of the view
Wearing a new bikini
What else should a young girl do
The wildest wave swept forward
As if to grab me in its fist
I tried to step on a different rock
The wave and my foot both missed
So there I lay upon the beach
A tangle of limbs and sand
A shadow hovered over me
The lifeguard took my hand
Lifting me high to his shoulder
He started at a trot
A bouncing, rolling, running gait
To find a dry warm spot
Now I go to the beech each weekend
No new bikini, but
I don't really need it
Inside the lifeguard's hut.
