The crackle of leaves hushing as the damp turns them to mush

Where the clouds of kids crawl home was loud and slow in fall
Winter's chill makes them hurry too fast for shouted mayhem

Long coats and big boots on crunchy grass while the sun eludes
Waiting silent behind cold iron clouds for a return to warm times

The slipping hours steal the day as cold did with all of the flowers
