A sudden slip of my tongue
and I knew that I was done.
I was drowning in a river
of thoughts that caused me to quiver.
It was my hidden desire
Turned into a blazing fire.
The shadows on my face
Hid and cooled my disgrace.
I started to babble in shame.
Tenderly, you spoke my name
And pressed a finger to my lips
Then replaced it with your sweet kiss.
I couldn't fathom your sudden attraction
Until, confused, I turned just a fraction.
And heard, "I've waited so long for this."
