At eighteen years, I left the place where women put me down.
No money there for college and no future in that town.
I signed up with the Air Force, thinking that was my best play.
And hoped the uniform would make some women look my way.

It didn’t work; the women went for better looking guys.
For men who hadn’t pimples and for men with bluer eyes.
Because there were so many men, the women all could choose.
And so I settled once again for prostitutes and booze.

I left the Air Force early ‘coz they didn’t like me there.
Perhaps, I thought, there is a woman, I just don’t know where.
But all the women that I knew thought I was one to spurn.
That got me thinking sadly, would it ever be my turn.
