Stars twinkle up high,
out of reach I can but watch
wish wait and pray
for heaven to fall

Willows weep, sway in the wind
shed teardrop leaves and sigh
try to touch the sky, fail
earthbound captives as well

fish jump, splash in the pond
seek escape, to fly
dive deep, drawn
by hope’s reflection downward

I sit, enchanted
by life’s eternal quest to soar
hungry, thirsting to be free
from the arms of gravity
