What use is winter dusk, when it grows chill?
Let's add another log, so flames may fill
the hearth where idle pets are wont to lay,
awaiting their instructions; and the play,
glimpsed through the frosted glass, as curtains close,
may hint at goings on and shedding clothes
by maidens, who seem shamefast in the light,
losing their modesty, when stars are bright.

If firm commands are whispered in the ear,
obedience is rife and actions clear;
What is the use of striving to be chaste?
Well, she is owned; and he now wants to taste
the ripeness of her charms and, yes, her musk,
as she is chased from dawn to winter dusk.

the form used

acted as support and not restraint for this write. personally, i had no issues with the beats per line - they all fell nicely into place as i read it, even though some stresses might occur in places they wouldn't normally; it didn't stilt the flow in any way for this reader.

smile :)

The first stanza is an absolute delight! I can visualize the entire poem and to me, that is what excellence in poetry is, not just a bunch of big words strung together. Well done!
