Walking out on a winters day
while snow falls from the sky
and children run out to laugh and play
I cannot help but sigh
and think back to the times that were
and times that might have been.
Stroking my hood, lined with fur,
and wish for warmth again.
I watch the children playing by the lake
covered head to toe in white
they’re having fun, for enjoyment’s sake
before being called in for the night
and as the snow drifts silent and still
I head for home, at the top of the hill.
