Words sing to me
Can you hear them?

The cry of a baby waking alone in the night,
the soft mewlings when mother makes it all right

The triumph in his tone when he speaks his first word
and takes the first step of his journey through the world

The shriek of a six year old as she falls into life's snare
And wails aloud those terrible words

LIFE JUST ISN'T FAIR!

The crude noises young boys make to prove they're really cool
The giggles and the whispers of the girls as they watch them all be fools

Tongue tied stuttering as he asks a girl out for the very first time
The soft answer yes, as she smirks and thinks "He's Mine!"

The shattering scream as her heart is broken for the very first time.
The stifled sob he tries to fight as she walks away, vowing he'll be just fine

The sounds of passion as a couple experiences their first act of love, from gasps, to shrieks, to whispers of endearment

To the acid voices as it all falls apart, the shouts, the crashing china, analyzing every word and wondering, "did they really mean it?"

The whoops when he hits that power chord and it turns him on
To the mournful sound of a slide guitar, as the bluesman growls how she done him wrong

The seemingly endless conversations that sound like chatter
From a middle aged couple so in tune words don't really matter.

To the soul breaking scream of seniors whose partner got to their journey's end
The sounds of silence bouncing off empty rooms until they meet again

The sounds of life, as it passes

Words sing to me,
and I listen

insight

this author has a rare ability to look into the hearts of people around him. I love to read him although he invariably makes me cry.Perhaps it is because I am an old man of 84 and closer to passing than most. Thank you.
