Later, sipping a second coffee after marvelous waffles on the tailgate, we clustered around the concrete sample. I asked Claire, "Do you think we should take this sample to the presentation?" I was leaning on her political smarts.
While looking at it, she wrapped an arm around my neck and delivered the standard punch to my bicep. I didn't even flinch anymore. "Yes. Of course. It is gorgeous."
She dropped me and pulled Aimee into a clinch. "What's the lineup going to be, French girl?" Who talks and in what order?"
Elise was next to me and whispered loudly, "Whatever you do, don't let that dumb architect open his mouth!"
