Only Whisper

Angel bit her lip and shook her head side-to-side.

I took a shower hoping the water would cleanse the guilt from my body and soul. I thought back to his whispers in the dark that afternoon trying to imagine what his voice really sounded like. But they had been too breathy, too soft and left me hopelessly fantasizing.

I awoke in the morning to find my husband in a deep sleep beside me. I quietly slipped out of bed and walked into the kitchen to make a pot of coffee. A package and note caught my eye sitting on the kitchen table. I opened up the little box and went numb. It was my lost earring. My mind raced. Nothing made sense. With trembling fingers I unfolded the note and read it.
