Algunas palabras de HandsInTheDark:

I write complicated, flawed characters with realistic personalities. None of them speak for me and none of them represent an ideal anything. I often (not always) write in fantastic settings to emphasize the point that I'm writing about people, independent of culture.

My stories explore the boundaries between submission, reluctance and non-consent. They don't exactly fit established categories.

Some of the male characters are deeply evil (Toymaker, Captured Princess), some are amoral but likable (Becoming Marie, Drug Trial), and none of them made it through Sunday school. They generally get their girl (with some notable exceptions) by force of will. When romance makes an appearance, it's often a surprise to one or more characters. In short, if you are looking candy and flowers, I'm not your guy. Some of my stories ask readers to puzzle over why Wrong can also be Hot.

I don't write sex stories; I write stories about people who happen to become very, very sexual. If you have no patience with plot or character development, other authors will suit you better and there are plenty of that sort here. I write stories that you can curl up with, with a cup of tea, a vibrator and a box of tissues.

Some of my stories - currently, Chosen, Reinventing Porn, Becoming Marie, Drug Trial, Why I Love My Job and The Captured Princess - are set in a common universe, though they span a few centuries and the connections can be hard to spot.

To answer some questions that come up in my email. I really am male and thank you for not being sure, because that means I'm doing a good job writing female characters. My favorite character is Windy; the most interesting character to write was Marcy; neither of them got sex scenes. All my characters are fictional, and names are generally chosen at random for baby name lists. All my characters are 18 or over. (This isn't because I don't believe that 17 year olds don't have lots and lots of sex; the site simply doesn't allow such stories so I don't write them.) Chosen is the story with the most intricate plot, and I'm very proud of it; but it's not erotica.

I am something of a gender essentialist. I believe the (considerable) difference in hormonal response and neural wiring in men and women have real consequences that shape society; and I think people who try to deny these things are idiots who need to get out of academia more often. I don't believe that this means women deserve a lesser place in society; I do believe that biology makes men more aggressive and assertive in general, and especially sexually, and this has immense impact in relationships. I further believe there is no fix for this because it doesn't represent a broken state of affairs.

These beliefs are reflected in my writing about dominance and submission. My writing is aimed at the primitive, primal parts of your brain that know that men *claim* women, and that women like it that way. If that thought sickens you, don't read my stories.
