I think you need something more substantial than the cursory story you decided to submit. The only credit you deserve is for the uniqueness in both presentation and idea. However, if the idea is very <i>shallow</i>, then your story is not ideal. I agree with the previous posters-- I don't know why this was an editor's pick either.
