This poem about an abused child growing to manhood displays, until the final lines,

the lack of emotion that the abused tend to manifest.

Even at the end, the protagonist is descriptive and not evocative.

The flatness of the telling is appropriate for the speaker's tale,

but it might be more interesting to a general audience if it "showed" more than "told".
