The day fell open, like a flower
suddenly out on this cold morning,
its reddish petals unveiling

a pale yellow centre. High
above, the clear, cold blue - old
and matchless over this wide

winter, the slow fields lying dazed
below. Still, there's no chance
of my entering this silence,

well locked up in warm walls
and a new, green sweater, wrapped
in the day's obligations & all.

Another lovely piece of writing

and the metaphor of the morning as a flower opening is beautiful. Thanks for posting both your poems today, I've really enjoyed reading them.

Those obligations...

Still, I wish you could have joined me out there.
