i've read a couple of stories where the husband can't get to his wife to rescue-speak to-confront, it's a powerful storyline, the frustration anger and desperation must be mind fucking. my thinking is it's a largely unexplored scenario. i don't think this story was the best i've read in that respect (i don't think that was ohio,s intention) and i reckon some of the other regular "cheating wife" authors could really do it justice.

This type of story, with the hubby witnessing his wife doing something (apparently) incriminating, evokes feelings of rage in most men. But the husbands in these stories invariably overreact and leave their home in a heated rush. Then they cut off all communication with their wives, sometimes going to extreme lengths to make her suffer. Really, who does that? Communication between husband and wife is so very important...and these immature characters cut it off in a petulant huff, with only bare-bones circumstantial evidence in some stories.

Think how different this story would have been if hubby waited at home for his wife to return. Or if he had called wifey's boss' business' emergency number (all businesses of any size have them). The one thing that COULD indicate that she had done something, was that she so willingly played into the 'guilty' role, and I wish the author would have let that drama play out:

As husband learns wife is the victim of a crime, he immediately redirects his rage at the assailant. He feels guilty of previous undeserved rage, and a strong need to protect his partner. When the wife continues to want to 'make it up' to him, he doesn't agree that she should. In fact he feels that he is the one who should make it up to her. She won't change her stance, which, at first, doesn't understand. Why is she acting guilty when she is clearly the victim? It doesn't fit with her 'strong independent woman' personality. When he realizes something is seriously wrong, either with her or with the situation, that is what leads to the real revelation of infidelity. The simplest explanation is usually the correct one, and she is acting as she is: Guilty.

I really wish ohio would have let it play out like that.

Very good story, but Barton attempted to rape her a second time and she didn't press charges. I hope there is some payback coming in part two.

As JTwheels says: Why did her 'friend' notice that she was drugged; notice that the she had to get her 'friend' away from the creep and yet took her home for 8 hours when what she should have done was to go straight to a hospital or a police station.

That is exactly what Barton Huntington is. He thinks that because of his position in society and standing at the company that he can do what he pleases and Beth should thank him. For a smart, strong, confident, and empowered woman Beth is sure naive. After the initial incident she should never have let herself be in the same room alone with him. Jake is an idiot. He obviously doesn't trust his wife, and automatically draws the worst possible conclusion. Then he hides from her instead of talking with her. You can't fix problems if your not around to address them. That is why this story is 5*s. It brings out the anger and frustration in me that smart people can be so stupid.

Tagged with revenge, but whose revenge and to whom !? The woman cheated on him with her boss, she was not honest, told him only part of the story to forgive her, and in the end it turns out that she let him know that she was cuckolding him.

If he drugged her at work there is no way he would suggest she go home and change even if she was able to.Also when she got home how would she explain herself to Jake,it was by pure chance he wasn't there.

Just two little plot issues: 1. Unlike Maddie, a normal person, especially a friend, would have taken Beth to the hospital for a drug panel. If she was that under the influence, she might have been given a serious overdose, and no one with a brain would have taken her home and tucked her into bed and left her...especially if the person was allegedly in the top %2 at Wharton. 2. Huntington didn't "sexually harass" Beth (which is a bullshit "sin" invented by the "Victorian Gentlemen" of the Rehnquist Court). No, Huntington committed several felonies. A drug screen would have gone a long way toward convincing the DA to prosecute. If "Maddie" is going to be written as "smart", you need to write her as doing things that anyone with at least average intelligence would do.

So she was drugged out of her mind and the plan was to leave her alone and hope she didnt vomit and asperate?
