What a triumph! This is a superb tribute to your late friend. It is a wonderful story. Roisin is a great creation, and the development of her character is so well-delineated. So glad she resisted Eileen, and even happier she got her reward. The redemptive pilgrimage back to Dublin was so well done. Five stars with glitter - thank you darling Maonaigh for a truly wonderful story xxxxx

A Literotica, week, this. A big smile, then a good cry, and (eventually) another big smile! Thanks, Maonaigh (and GinnyPPC and Candy_Kane54 for the first smile and the good tears.)

And Requiescat in Pace, TrueMort. Maonaigh made sure you're still part of the story.

Thank you

Maonaigh,

Thank you. I'm sure parts of this story were as emotional to write as they were to read. They were handled with dignity and grace. You had me in tears. And you had me laughing. I'm very happy that you got to give these characters the follow up story they deserve, and one that Alex would have wanted for them. The way you wrote the characters was so like Alex, almost like she was guiding your hand through parts of the writing process. I'm sure she would have approved.

The story itself was good. Very, very good. Made more so to me because on a trip last year I got to see the apartment building and neighborhood in Santa Monica where the story takes place. I had detailed maps from Alex to go by. You certainly nailed the culture of the area.

I can't speak for the rest of her Lit family, but for me this was a very cathartic story to read. Thank you for including me in the forward. You've done her memory proud.

It is sad that a great writer has left us, but this is a spectacular tribute. Well written, full of emotion and it moved at a great pace with a happy ending. Many thanks for sharing it.

Well, Maonaigh, what can I say? I don't think, Zabina and Alex had to die fo the sake of your story, but then I guess I see what you were after... joining Roisin when she said her goodbye to them at the cemetery was a bit like being able to say goodbye to Alex TrueMort, and for that I would like to thank you! Besides, Alex's friends all seem to agree, so who am I to argue.

I have been following this site for some time now and I was lucky to find some truly marvelous stories written by people that, in order to do so, must be pretty marvelous, too, or so I like to believe. Alex TruMort was one of them. I sometimes wonder what happened with this or that author that became silent. In some cases, they come back, even after years, in other cases I had to realize they passed away. And it is a bit stupid as I didn't know any of them personally, but it was still sad and painful, as it is now. What's comforting somehow is that Alex's stories will live on for a long time, on this site hopefully, and definitely in my mind and the minds of many others.

I am writing all of this here as comments seem to be disabled with Alex's stories. Maybe it is seen by the people close to her. She certainly made an impact on me.

Again, many thanks to you, Maonaigh, for notifying us and for completing Roisin's story! You know you gave us some pretty marvelous stories, too!

My takeaway from the story is kindness.

Starting with the selfless act of the sailor who helps Roisin to escape, continuing with Ellie, the first woman in Roisin's life to provide her with loving comfort, kindness weaves like a golden thread through the story.

Kindness is so much needed to help heal the wounds, to soothe the pain, to mourn the loss.

There is a purgatory with the promise of a paradise where BDSM becomes an innocent play enjoyed by child-like souls like Ellie and Rio.

Unlike Dante who never returned to his native Florence after being exiled, Roisin returns, to pay her respects and say good bye once more to Alex and Zabina, the dearest members of her adopted family in Italy. Thanks to them she could find a new life and a new family with Jinn and Dom in a new world.

Damaskus is evoked in two ways: For redemption, when Roisin meets her mother again, forgives her and helps her to a better life. Then for love, represented by Charon, the Rose of Damask, the love of her life.

Thank you, Maonaigh, for this story.

It is a fitting tribute. It helps us remember and celebrate the life of departed people we love. It is a reminder that love survives death, but only if we practice love every day.

Wonderful tale. I especially liked the tying up of loose ends in Dublin and Italy. 5+ stars.

Very nicely done. If I had to make a recommendation it would be to better identify the timeline of her time in California. She seemed to do so extraordinarily well in her new position that it was hard to imagine anything less than five years or so before she went back to Europe. That being said, clearly a great story. 5*

Totally brilliant!!! wonderful way to pay tribute.

I enjoyed this. 5*. A small quibble: I think ferries stopped running from Dun Laoghaire in 2015. Since you live in Kent, and must therefore be familiar with passport control between the UK and the continent, I found it interesting that you didn't give an explanation of how she got across the channel. After all, a bit later you explicitly mentioned Schengen.

An exceptional story. Wanted to give you more than 5 stars. Thank you very much for sharing.

What a wonderful tribute to Alex and her characters! The way you wrote this I could see both Alex’ and your writing blended into story which was beautiful. Like many other commenters you had me laughing, crying and happy throughout. The little highlights you included from previous chapters were a very nice touch, brought back memories from when I first read Alex’ stories. I only new Alex as a reader of her works but am still very sad that her pen will never meet paper again. You should be very proud of this tribute, I very sure Alex is.

As previous commenters said, a great and touching tribute to TrueMort and her characters. I had really loved her work and you have written a piece that integrates her characters smoothly into your story. I loved the fitting tribute to Alex and Zabi. Roisin found that her life really had meaning. Great job!

I have to say that I don't know who True Mort is, but this is a terrific story, full of fascinating characters and I am so glad to have read it.

What a wonderful story. Of course I kept recognising bits of it, from having read the stories on which it's based.

By turns humorous, dark, sweet and poignant, it's been a geat journey to follow Rose's adventure. Rose is a beautifully realised character; believable and flawed, yet noble.

The writing is so well done that the story just flowed from the screen into my mind.

A sweet story of betrayal, friendship and love, touchingly told, moving seamlessly from funny to dramatic to poignant and back again.

I am agog. This is my first exposure to you work. You are a truly masterful author, from the ground up. It has been a pilgrimage. A tender, generous tribute to your friend Alex. May she rest in peace! So many different voices -- Irish, Italian, Italian-American, Northern European, American, and immigrant Italian in America without any direct reference to the Mafia.

You have interwoven so many interesting and thought-provoking themes -- the friendship between Ellie and Roisin, formed of a connection that transcended sex without foreclosing sex; the emptiness in Ellie and Roisin, which gets fulfilled with Rio in Ellie's case and with Charon in Roisin's; the trap of abuse, culminating in the reconciliation of Roisin and her Mam, and ultimately leading to her Man's redemption.

Finally, I must mention how refreshing it is to see an author who has sufficient care and knowledge to respect the rules of syntax, grammar, and spelling. At last an author who understands the difference between transitive and intransitive verbs, the difference between lie and lay and between rise and raise!

I look forward to steeping myself in the rest of your work.

What a wonderful story. You always manage to write stories with a complex plot with a well-plotted character arc. I loved the Irish setting and yes, there was a hell of a lot of abuse back then, it's probably still going on but I'm glad Roisin had the strength to escape and embark on her travels throughout Europe. I haven't been to Amsterdam yet but it's on my bucket list... soon... after Covid! The ending was perfect and i laughed at the Trump reference, it was one of those subtle but sharp digs. Thanks for sharing the story with us. Take care and keep writing.

I am truly moved. I have read all of TrueMort's work over and over. As I have only just made an account I wanted to share my thoughts on this beautiful story.

This just felt so real, I suppose that was one of the reasons I love her work, the characters felt like they could be you friends or neighbours, and I have to say as do yours, and (fingers crossed) I hope mine will when they finally come to life.

You have managed to paint a multi-coloured picture, from shades of grey to bright greens and golds, then back to dark greys again, only to finish in silvers and whites.

I have cried tears, giggled, laughed out loud, and cried again.

A truly worthy tribute, to a beautiful writer, by a very talented writer.

From my heart, Thank you for writing and sharing. I wish I had known TrueMort, she must have been a very special person.

Having now read a number of your stories I now realise you are a cunning linguist!

I've been writing semi-pro since the 1960s, most of my stories falling under the blanket heading of weird tales. However, I'd written nothing for 5-6 years because my wife was very ill and disabled and care for her was my priority. Some months after her death in December 2013 ...
