With few words, this author created a tale which represents the spirit of Christmas. Reminiscent of "It's a Wonderful Life," including the redemption of a not so likable heroine, this story turns from tragedy into one full of hope and love. What else could we want for Christmas? Well done, thank you for a good read.
One hell of a fine story! I hope you Hav e a wonderful season.
A really well developed short story of a wife's evolution from selfish harridan to Loving Wife. Well done.
decent story, but the 'star' is so selfish and miserable it is hard to see her loss as anything other than a relief.
Who has concerns only for herself and thinks a Christmas Star will taken the place for having her older daughter (who is not that old) do everything from cleaning, cooking, taking care of the baby and exclduing only the duties or chore of making love with her husband.
If this had been her behavior pattern it would be a great job of becoming someone that the family would not miss when she passed on. Even with her change at the end she has become her mother, whose's legacy of showing a Christmas star has now been passed on. She (the unfaithful wife ) would not be that big a lost.
I really liked it but then I have always been a sucker for a warranted happy ending.
All of us need to see life in a new perspective now and then to keep us focused on the important not the urgent.
Again Nice Job,
Writingdragon
I think you captured the essence of a wife who has let herself fall apart and feels lonely because of it. It's so sad that this story is being played out all over America every day. Good job.
How can you rate a story Hot with a possibly dying woman and no sexual content?
If the purpose of this story was to have sympathy for the wife well sorry but as someone said what a self centered bitch and okay by the end of the story she had woken up to the fact that her family wouldn't miss her if she wasn't there but she was going to cheat even though the bloke seemed to be no comparison to husband. But apart from these defects in the story it did end sort of happily.
Extremely well written, the story line was different and sorrowful of a self-centered woman who equates love with her own happiness, not anyone else’s. It takes a person showing love and working with fervor to make someone happy to have any real love. There are too many people who feel that if they have achieved some small goal then the rest of the world owes them applause. She has a lot to prove over time.<P>Thank you for some very good writing and entertainment.<P>PT
Great story. Thanks for sharing. I'd bet the readers who think this woman's a bitch for the way she treated her family would feel differently if they had lived through it themselves. It's not easy being strong for everyone around you when you feel yourself falling apart. Excellent read, thanks again.
Things like this happen every single day all over the world -- someone not realizing what they've got right in front of them until it's almost too late. Thanks for a great read. Good luck in the contest.
Anyone that can't see past the surface of the story to the deeper meaning needs to reread it. Excellent story.
The dumb bitch of a wife is ignoring her husband and doesnt even tell him or the family of the doctors report that she may be dying then she goes behind her husbands back and has a fling with the husbands friend then finds out it was all a big mistake the husband should divorce her she cheated on him .
story except the mammograms were mistaken, stage IV and we are in year three and still going. She didnt hide a thing, told me everything, I was with her, and she raised and is raising two young children, one around 5 and one 7 now. This woman got the hell scared out of her because she was so self centered, self involved, and self indulging. She valued her husband and family almost not at all. She even tried to have and affair, it doesnt matter she didnt have sex, she intended to and was by her actions, disloyal to, and betrayed her husband and marriage. Sometimes learning you are very limited in your duration here and that it can end any time makes people grow up and realize the blessings they do have. Hopefully the benefits to her and her family will not end soon as the shock of what occured wears off. I am afraid were I to have been married to this one, she wold have been divorced long before the letter arrived.
I wonder how sympathetic Sally would have been if she knew that Janice, her best friend, was going to screw her husband. She might have said, "Eat shit and die, bitch!" Well, such is life. I wonder if the wife really learned that we are ultimately responsible for our own happiness.

All you black bird pilots have a great imagination. But this was a good one. I have been through the same situation and it ain't no fun...keep up the good stories,
A thud driver...
Very nice, glad she found her way back to enjoy her life and family. Thanks
The truly impossible part was that no one
else returned fire on her when she was being
nasty. I can not imagine a husband putting up
with wife going to a spa rather than Thanksgiving
Dinner with his folks and their children. He had
to fight the message she was sending to the children!
Very fine story!
Very well told. Janice isn't very likeable at first but realizes that her ship is off course and gets back to what is important in her life--her family. The fact that she doesn't have cancer is gravy. Thank you, sr71plt, for an entertaining tale.
I've thought quite a bit about the reactions to this story.<BR>
My guess is that not many mothers have read it, and I'll bet, that very definitely, not one of the 'kill-the-bitch' posters is a mother.<BR>
Firstly, this whole episode is not about a long term 'withdrawal' on Janice's part - the story tells us:<BR>
<I>"Not one of them hinted at the bitch she'd been toward all of them for months."</I><BR>
So we are talking about a woman with a young baby, and two other children to worry about, who has basically given up on her life as a mother and wife for a few months.<BR>
The descriptions in this story seem to me to be the classic symptoms of what was called 'Baby Blues' thirty years ago when I was having my children, and what is more realistically now called Post Natal Depression.<BR>
Not dressing, drinking, smoking and generally having no motivation and no enjoyment in anything - classic symptoms. By all accounts from those who have been there, it is a dark place to be.<BR>
In this story we aren't told how old the 'baby' is, but she is not very old if she is still in nappies and in a cot, so maybe my theory is correct.<BR>
Hubby tells us: <I>"They had been here before, almost constantly in recent months."</I> Could this tell us she had been like this at some time after the birth of the other two children, and he knew it would eventually pass? He was obviously not yet overly worried and seemed prepared to quietly do what he had to do to keep the rest of the family functioning with a degree of normalcy until she came around to her old self.<BR>
Before she read the letter, Janice was already starting to come out of her 'funk', I believe in a large degree because of the non-threatening way she was treated by hubby and the two children, who let her pull through at her own pace.<BR>
Was the meeting with Dennis a good idea? NO! But she realised on her own how silly it was and left before she did anything irreversible. Would Dave be happy to know about the episode? I doubt it. But even fairly drunk, Janice's brain still worked well enough to get her the hell out of there.<BR>
Also, I'm not too sure -as another commenter said - that the bit about going to the spa instead of a family function is all that believable.<BR>
Overall, I thought this a good story, well told, enough information to see what was happening and with a well crafted and believable ending - especially for a Christmas story.
A refreshing change from the 'Cheating Wife' story. There is redemption in most of us if we allow it to surface.
Sometimes we don't know what we have until it's gone...and once in a rare while an opportunity comes along to show you what you have. Thanks for a great story of hope and redemption.
I don't comment often. This was well written and quite good, certainly better than the grunt and pant stuff.
More please.
Almost too sweet for me, but that's just me. For those who read Guye de Mopassant's "The Neckless"; doesn't it read like a reversal of "The Neckless"?
They say lighning doesn't strike twice the same place. A bit like winning the Lottery.
She actually WON. and it was good to read!
Okay it was schmaltzy and the theme wasn't a new one but the way you interpreted it brought a tear to my eye. You're a top notch story-teller. Good Luck in the comp.
from your normal stories. In my top 5 favorites in Literotica's site.
Excellent writing and a beautiful storyline made this a story I wont soon forget.
They knew (actually though) she was dying so of course her family would do what they could to ease her pain.
How could she not be fussy? She almost had an affair just to ease the pain and fear of dying. Anything to give meaning to her life.
WTF treat your family like shit when you think you have cancer, thats a time when you need your fucking family, goes to show how little the bitch thinks of them. 1*
Treats her family like shit for months, almost cheated on her husband. Luckily for her Dave and the family are the forgiving kind. She has to live with the grief she caused. Oh well, maybe we'll get a ch. 2 and she can die there,
HA
What exactly was this story about? No sex, no adultery, no anything Literotica.
So why is this story here??
I think it would be more appropriate in non-erotic or romance.
It does still fit here though. She was a bitch, a cunt even.
She was wallowing in malaise, a mental fog of sameness, depression, entitlement. The fumbling with the asshole, comparing him with her husband, helped her realize her what she really had at home. The reprieve of the letter came and she had a chance again for a happy life. She was determined to take advantage of it.
So she thinks she has cancer and instead of telling her family and seeking support, she goes apeshit, acts like a complete cuntrag, and almost cheats on Hubby?! Fuckin' selfish bitch! She only snaps out of it after finding out about the error and that she doesn't really have cancer. Treating her kids like that... Bullshit! They need a new category for this tale alone: Unlovable Bitches.
1 Star.
Gave this a 5 to help offset the asshole annony. The effort and content was good and you make dumbass anonny yell! He's a sad little man who yells when he thinks he is right to get his point across. We all know he loves these LW stories and jerks his little 3 incher!!
I really like the story itself. I different plot than normal for LW but a welcome change.
Excellent.
I gave it a 5*. Different story well told with a great ending. Thank you! Well written.
It's good to see a story with a happy ending once in a while, especially in the "LW"
category. I'm surprised it took me so long to find this one, but I'm glad I finally did.
5 Stars, no doubt.
You know how to write man. The repetition of words was amazingly done. It reminded me of some very very good novels Ive read. Gonna check out your others, please write some more that are a bit more mainstream perhaps? Gay isn't everyones cup of tea, and Id like to read more of your stories.
That was really good. I'm glad to have found it. Thank you for writing. You impressed at lot of difficult readers with this one. I would recommend it to anyone.
I stumbled on this story when I was looking at another commenters favorites (which is a good way to come across new stories - find a random comment in a story that appeals to you, then look at that commenters favorites) and I'm very pleasantly surprised. What a great, uplifting tale, especially at Christmas. Five stars!
what we typically see in LW. Touching and creative. Very well executed, too. Deserves a much higher score.
I have enjoyed over the years. When I get depressed I read this one. Wish you would right more like this but eventually It must become hard coming up with plots when you've written as many as you have.
She needs to tell Dave about what she almost did with Dennis. At the very least so he can set the asshole straight.
Don't tell Dave anything about Dennis. You walked away before anything happened. Your husband doesn't need to know. Enjoy a long life.
Never said what caused depression.
And change for worse (going to cheat) to better;not explainable by what he was going to do to her!!
What was spark that set her off.
This may have been a romance type story, but the I would never have read it. Thanks for the way you told this. Great story with a truly happy ending. 6* tale at least.
