However, I would say that I'm not feeling a lick of 'steampunk' from this. Modern era tech bordering on sci fi. Modern movie references. Genetic Manipulation. These are rather distant from the clockwork and brass of victorian era sci-fi that is the root of steampunk. Which could be compensated for with more detailed descriptives. But honestly that farm could be anywhere from steampunk era to star trek. I like your writing style however. So keep at it!
