This is a classic piece of MC. Well written, interesting characters, good plot, clever plot device. And your main character wasn't some sort of sociopath. I prefer a lighter MC story, like this one, where the controller has a heart.

I wouldn't mind seeing this story go farther. Surely there are more adventures in store for our young inventor and his family? And I LOVE how you used the mother's emerging sexuality as a way for her to become more powerful! That was awesome. And enjoyably ironic. The controlled becomes the controller. She gains power from the experience. Quite excellent.
