Superb storytelling by the author, this story is actually surprisingly romantic, and the ending certainly so. The reader can really identify with the characters, which are well-defined for the reader. The plot builds at a steady pace to the wonderfully romantic conclusion. Five stars.

Story was great, but just two minor nit-picks.  The story is set in 1959, but you've got references, by name, to gummy bears and spandex.   Spandex was first invented/developed in 1959 so it probably wouldn't have been available in quantity yet, and gummy bears (as we know them today) weren't imported into the US until the 1980s.
