"I will need two number fives to go," I told him as I picked up my mug of coffee.

"Two, well you are one lucky man Greg," he replied his eyes flashing jealous sparks. "Are they young and gorgeous?"

"Yes. You've met my bodyguard Rhea. But the other might surprise you; she is a recently widowed blonde."

"I guess you were comforting the poor thing."

"Nah, I took advantage of her. She came over knowing what was in store for her. How is that fine daughter of yours?"

"Still off limits you rogue," Phillip said smiling. "She has a boyfriend I think."

"Daddy, are you talking about me again?" Janessa cried out as she walked by. "Oh hi Greg...!"

"Oh no you don't..." Phillip growled. "You aren't going to end up on his to do list."

"Daddy, you worry too much," she purred. "I'd never do that." She said behind him even as she mouthed the words 'call me'.

Phillip rose to his feet and ushered his daughter back behind the counter. I couldn't help but glance at the full round ass of hers. I thought Brazil had cornered the market on the bubble butt but she was a perfect example of that round rump. I bet I could bounce a fifty dollar gold piece off that ass! Damn it, my mind was stuck in fuck mode today. I was able to eat my breakfast in relative peace. I sipped my coffee and looked around at the other patrons. I had become a huge fan of people watching since I moved to Washington D.C. There were the typical businessmen and women but there were also parents with their children. One of the kids was playing with colorful plastic blocks that connected together. He was well on his way on erecting a huge rainbow tower. I stared at him as he added one block after the other.

"I'll be damned," I said as I got to my feet. I walked over to the table with the casually dressed mom and her child. "Excuse me young man I have a professional question for you?"

"Well, I suppose I have time. What do you think mom?"

"He seems trustworthy. I think you should give him the benefit of the doubt." She replied smiling up at me.

"'Kay, what can I do for you old man?"

"What do you think would happen if you fired that grand tower of yours into space?" I asked and he took a long moment to ponder my question.

"I suppose it would come apart. I mean all that shaking would knock it down." The young boy said adding his final block to the tower.

"That was my thought too. How would you solve the problem?" I asked and he smiled and replied.

"You don't send it into space like that. You break it down and put it together when you get to the moon."

"That is a perfect answer. Thank you both." I said and turned to Janessa. "Put their breakfast on my tab."

"Sure thing Greg," Janessa said and grinned mischievously. "Oh by the way... I'll see you at Roo's birthday party."

I stopped at the counter to get the bagels and coffee for the girls. I looked at her confused. How the hell did she know Roo? She handed me the box and the two coffees in a carrier. She blew me a kiss and walked to the back letting me get a parting glance at that magnificent ass of hers. Janessa you are going to be the death of me. I returned to the hotel with a smile on my face. There were far worse ways to die I thought to myself. I woke up my other half only to find he was still working on the solution for Project Ares. I offered up my solution. Well it was actually the solution inspired by the young man playing with his blocks. It meant rethinking the construction of the blink technology but in the long run it might solve more than one problem.

"I thought of a modular approach to the project but I see the strength of your version of it. I will see what I can come up with."

"I will look at it on my way to Arkham later today." I said as I entered the hotel's garage.

I managed to slip into the lobby without being seen. I took the elevator up and felt that rush of adrenalin every time I knew I was on the brink of something big. As I rode up I put together an attack plan. The girls were up and hungry when I entered the apartment. I smiled as I handed over their breakfast like some mama bird feeding her chicks. I moved into the living room as they ate and brought out my other half. He sat opposite of me and I told him what I needed step by step. He smiled and that's when I knew it was just a matter of time. While he deconstructed the ring that comprised the blink technology I watched what my other half called all of the visible phenomena related to the physics of the gate. I replayed it over and over again at various speeds and different spectra so I knew as much as a layman could grasp.

"How the hell did he ever figure this shit out?" I said aloud.

"I agree," my other half replied. "How did an antiquarian devise so sublime a technology?"

I heard the girls stir from the bedroom and switched off the display of the blink system. I closed my eyes and replayed what I had seen but I was still falling far short of understanding as he had said the sublime technology. I had him display not just the physical aspects but the working parts of the gate directly to my retina. I had him highlight each mechanical part as it came online and how it affected the process of creating the gate. I slowed it down so far it took nearly a minute from the first part to come to life and the formation of the wormhole. I repeated it as I had before to see the shifts in the infrared and the ultraviolet. I stopped when my head began to hurt.

"Greg, are you alright," Rhea asked as she sat down next to me.

"Yeah, I was overthinking a problem. I need to take a break before we pack for our flight."

"I almost forgot. You have to meet the boyfriend." She giggled. "A father's work is never done."

"You have a kid?" Amarna asked.

"Yeah, she's almost twenty," I replied opening my eyes.

"No fucking way," she said. "You can't have a kid that old."

I smiled and asked her what she was going to do. Amarna looked terrified and Rhea was the one to figure out why. The press was just outside the building and she had arrived in only a mink coat. Rhea took her to the bedroom and they found a pair of jeans that fit, barely. I heard the soft sing song melody of Rhea's voice as she brushed and wove the other's hair into an intricate pattern of tresses. When the widow emerged she looked amazing and the images of her hair were likely to start a whole new fashion craze. As she kissed my cheek and left I wondered if I was going to lose my bodyguard to the hair industry. Rhea dressed but it was business again. She slid on the shoulder holster and sheathed her matching gauss pistols. They were slenderer than was standard issue and were jet black with a single crimson character on the grip. I slipped into one of my business suits and let her run the brush over it to remove any errant hairs or dust.

We left the building via the garage and walked the two blocks to where she had parked the town car. We slipped away to the airport unseen. I think much of that was because of Amarna getting all of the press's attention. I imagined her interview would talk about her grief about losing her husband to long term depression. Now that she had time to deal with the pain she would survive. I still didn't trust her completely and her actions would dictate how things would go from here on. I turned my attention to my daughter and her invite to meet the boyfriend. It must pretty serious if she wanted my opinion of this young man. I had done my best to keep in touch since we went our separate ways. She had been busy with school work and I had my career. I guess all things have to change.
