Dr. Branden forced herself to answer calmly. "I'm afraid we're going to have to stop for today, Dan. But let me say one thing to you, please.

"I don't tell my patients what to do or make their decisions for them. Susan and I discussed for weeks whether she should confess the affair to you, and we examined all sides of it: the pros and cons of confession and of silence.

"She was simply unable to tell you about it back in August, when she was just coming out of her depression; she was far too fragile. And by the time we had discussed it thoroughly it was two months later. Things were going very well for the two of you, and Susan concluded it would be far better to leave it in the past. She didn't want to hurt you needlessly.

"It was not an unreasonable decision, in my opinion," she concluded, in an authoritative tone. "None of us anticipated that something like this would ever happen."

Dan glared at her coldly, his arms crossed over his chest. It was clear that he did not share her opinion in the least.

Amazing that this commenter "TrainerOfBimbos" is again giving his wise advice for other readers and commenters.

Dear commenter, your statements about the therapist are causally incorrect. A therapist not only opens up the possibility of insight into a problem, he also guides his patient in the right direction for him. And in this case that would certainly have been admitting to the affair. It's amazing that so often people believe that they don't have to take responsibility for the mistakes they make. Unfortunately, our society tends to avoid it.

Dan's attitude is a purely protective attitude that every person who has been deeply psychologically and emotionally injured usually shows. But he also has every right to do so.

Wow, the delusional "anonymous" commentators are out in full force here. First off, the therapist is doing a fine job. They don't tell people what to do, they help them examine the situation so that they can make their own decision. Dan blaming her is just him being angry and a dick.

Also, there's no indication that Susan is a "slut". She had a traumatic experience - a man, well not just any man, but a man with a significant position of power over her became her trusted confident and then abused that confidence and his position to start a sexual relationship with her. Without a doubt, she was victimized.

Why is he even bothering? The fact is given certain circumstances...she will cheat. Lie. Keep things like a long term affair a secret. Even brag about it to her BFF Diana. Even her big effort 2 years prior to start their healing process as a couple? Where she apologizes and rededicates herself to him and their marriage? He finds out that as recently as 2 days before that she was fucking Teddy in one last "goodbye" fuck.

Divorce is the ONLY answer for this situation.
