Good space opera...
Unrelated to the story or Pars' skils, I have always struggled w- a common theme where martial arts are part of the story line. To wit:
Martial artist has gone rogue & has gained skills rivaling or surpassing their master. Said rogue must be killed. I am, time, and time again, baffled why someone doesn't just shoot them. Shoot them as you would a rabid animal; from a distance, no discussion about their moral questionability, (by definition, they have gone rogue, conversation, at this point will not change them.
Why do these situations ALWAYS play out predictably, but illogically? There 'must' be one on one, hand to hand combat, inevitably risking the non-rogue, 'good guy/gal', or even killing them, demanding their protegé must then seek revenge. Also, in these scenarios, 'revenge' is stated as a motivational factor for the 'good'.
As soon as the 'good' side cites revenge, they lose their white hat/horse. Revenge is NOT a trait of 'the good', it is petty, typically jealousy or envy based, and usually without merit.
Good space cowboy opera, though, just sticks a bone in my craw with the stereotypical 'martial arts master' character.
