Excellent as always!

I love the fact that the wife and daughter didn't hold to his ideas, but then again they didn't have to be the husband in the marriage. Each of us has an idea of what we can put up with and once that idea is passed by, its enough. I wouldn't want to stay married to a woman that wanted to be with someone else.

I also liked the subtle revenge. No over the top ninja murder-death-kill. Just a phone call. That was enough and allowed me as the reader to keep believing this whole story could actually happen.

An easy 5 stars.

She never cheated? What about the phone call sex while they were waiting on the divorce. The ex wife got what she deserved in life.

No, he didn't pull the trigger too quickly. But do these people (wives) who ask for a "catch up pass" actually exist?

Big_Tim99Big_Tim995 months ago

No it was not a quick hook, the sex phone call proved his point. She was trying to rub it in. She would have eventually done it despite his objections.

AardieAardie5 months ago

My main question is did she dial him during sex or was it the asshole's revenge?

fausttusfausttus5 months ago

nice surprise, thanks

I started reading this figuring it would be just like most other "he's a hard ass" stories.

But it flowed well and didn't hammer home the I have immovable values approach.

His first wife WAS already dating all through the planning and seduction phase with her younger cheating lover to be. She had been stealing from her husband emotionally for some time. She just wanted him to give permission to sanction his own marital execution. His second wife and her “line in the sand” comment were spot on. 5 stars

Finally an author got this point right. Once she's asked, the offense and the penalty should be the same as if she already did it. Damn good story. Thank you.

When you really think about it and put yourself in his position, filing for divorce does make some sense. I don't think I would have done it though. I would have gave her another chance. Great little story. 5

AnonymousAnonymous5 months ago

Okay story, but wasn't that his wife screwing another man on the phone? Was it a butt dial? Didn't matter. He had the recording. Why not use it when others question him on his ex-wife's fidelity? Other than that, I liked the fact that he had a line in the sand he wouldn't cross.

I wanted to rate it as average, but the part where the whole bar celebrates him for putting someone's head through a wall, followed by free drinks and calling the cops on the victim, made it feel like I was just listening to some drunk's blabbered fantasy in a bar.

I think he acted too soon. Maybe it turned out okay for him. But women his wife's age sometimes get worried about losing their appeal. Then they're ripe for some player. If he could have stuck it out for a while, they'd still be married, and probably happy. Just sayin' D

Great story. Thanks. Perhaps a sequel is in order, this one told from the wife's perspective.

Demosthenes384bcDemosthenes384bc5 months ago

Intriguing question - when is a marital relationship irretrievably broken? Like the title, you left out some critical dialogue in the “quick” story of failed marriage. The narrative says his ex was distancing herself from the family prior to the ask. However, you didn’t expand the plot line to reveal if he ever confronted her while she was doing it. When she called him having sex on their anniversary, did he ever use that recording to show his children their mother’s depravity? Great writing as always, just nitpicking. I need to ponder on the stories question still - LOL. 4.5*

Go Bob! Completely agree about the trust issue. Did he react too quickly? No, the reaction shows how serious he was and how she’d hurt him. It would have been interesting to hear what his FIL told his wife after he explained himself. I might have given counseling more of a chance, but it would have been a challenge proving she’d not lie again, and that she hadn’t taken long lunches in a hotel room. More counseling sessions might have been worth the cost to see her squirm. It might have been worthwhile to record the sessions for his daughter’s and in-laws’ benefit.

AZslyderAZslyder5 months ago

Whether you're of the BTB crowd or the RAAC persuasion, a serial monogamist or a hard-core swinger, it comes down to trust...and she broke it planning behind his back with or without permission. She got what she earned...of course to make it juicy he "traded up" but that's just brain candy. Formulaic true, but still well written...4/5

Hey @overconfident, doing the right thing has always worked for me, to include knocking down angry drunks causing an issue.

A predator dragging a drunk girl into the head, gets one in the head from this dad of 3 daughters, every time.

miket0422miket04225 months ago

The story could have still had the same ending but, I feel it would have actually had some emotional impact if there'd been actual dialogue between her initial ask and the divorce.

She was wrong to ask. He was right not to trust her. But, doesn't a 20+ year marriage that mere minutes earlier he thought was perfect deserve at least a little conversation? Actually talking to each other instead of talking at each other?

Perfectly average story of it's type.

Great take on the 'we need to talk' and the ' I want to date other men' theme. Got to agree with our MC if she's asking she's definitely thinking about and that means she's already cheating in her mind. Nice story a little along the lines of my own. Cheating wife, divorce, chance meeting a beautiful woman my own age with four kids, married a year later and it lasted almost 40 years before she passed away. 5 stars

Great story. Reasonable decision to divorce. MC's judgment to marry Traci WAS questionable, but I attribute that to young hormones. After all, what else would you expect from a prom queen?

JustOneMansOpinionJustOneMansOpinion5 months ago

I really liked it, almost to the point of giving it 5-stars. Just couldn't give it the fifth star for some reason. I think a lot of people draw a difference between an emotional affair and a physical affair. They are different but can be just as damaging to a marriage and the trust needed to keep a marriage strong and together. I think the definitive word that sealed the fate of their union was that little three letter word, "YET", small word, big meaning. How long did Dan stay with Traci after the marriage was broken? Whose idea was the phone call on the night of Bob and Traci's 22nd anniversary? What happened to Lisa and Jerry, did her collusion with Traci cause problems in their marriage? Did Jerry lose trust that Lisa might do the same thing to him? Sometimes other writers include actors from previous stories to let us know how their lives continued on to answer these questions. Maybe it was these questions that kept me from giving it the fifth star. Liked it, just didn't love it. Thanks for posting your story.

justbobkcjustbobkc5 months ago

5 stars.

It's about control and the power dynamic in the marriage. The wife thought she was the dominant person in the marriage. She probably was right up until that power corrupted her.

Marrying a beautiful Prom Princess girl is always a risky business.

Nice read.

What happened Jerry&Lisa? :)

JoeMoeFromChicagoJoeMoeFromChicago5 months ago

As fellow Chicago native, I've always been a fan of Hooked (and you too, laptop, saw you post here). I think people that critize this story for being too harsh on the wife forgets (or ignores) that men need that same affection and reassurance that the wife here was seeking. The difference here is that getting from their wife is enough for them. So the wife telling the husband that she needs more than what the husband can give her is a very good reason to let her go.

5-stars!!

Good but one might think that hubby would pounce on figuring out which girlfriend is whispering in her ear to open the marriage up earlier than it is written.

LT56linebackerLT56linebacker5 months ago

Excellent story. Cut through the typical bullshit and you get the same outcome. She was bored. She was starting to get old. Hormones were involved. She was and is a slut. One more thing. The guy did nothing wrong. He held up his end of the marriage as we were all taught to do. So how was he at fault? The snake got into the garden and sowed his seed in the broad's mind. She was simple and easily led astray. She almost got everything she deserved. I wonder who cheated the second time to cause her second divorce?? Too bad the asshole was still walking around upright.

One other thing. It is a major point with me that all the so-called 'Alpha males' are wussies and self-centered pricks- God's gift to women. The so-called 'Beta males' are the backbones of society. Not the wimpy pushovers so often depicted in some of these stories, but the good guys who honor their vows, and remain faithful. Did he overreact? NO>He reacted. She was gone, as he thought. Just a matter of time. A fantasy is one thing. God does not make junk, and we all fantasize. good lick, buddy. You deserve it.

I wonder how Kathleen's ex reacted? Stroke, maybe?? Thank you, Karma. The Bear heartily approves. 6 stars. More, please, sir.

Ima throw a 5 at you for his quick decisive action.

WhackdoodleWhackdoodle5 months ago

Hell yes he did divorce for no reason.

Couples have conversations about what they want, what they like, what they think they want. You discuss these things as a couple. Because while douchecanoe touted the whole faithfulness part of the marriage vows, he neglected to mention the “till death do us part” section of the vows along with the “love, honor and cherish”. Those promises are NOT dependent upon the spouses actions, they are a vow made independently. In other words, he broke his vows.

He didn’t love her, he loved her being his wife. They weren’t partners, he expected her to submission.

Loss of trust is the most significant factor in the breakdown of a relationship, married or not. Once broken, it is almost impossible to repair.

She broke that trust.

Mac_LapuMac_Lapu5 months ago

That was a good read.

Made me stop and reflect.

I've never been in a situation like the MC where the wife asks for a pass but had not done the deed yet. Quite a conundrun for any spouse really but more so with the hubby because we kniw any wife or woman can easily get laid while men especially average in life men needs a lot of work and money to reach first base. The question husbands' need to decide is; will I rug-sweep her request or will I end a long term marriage? If hubby forgives and forgets the request -- in time doubts might fester and grow, every move the wife makes, every words she said, every late nights outdoor or even lone excursion to some place -- the husbands unconciously analyze and scrutiinize for red flags all these might take a toll on the hubby's health and well-being thus straining the narriage even more instead of fixing it. In a nutshell the 'trust but verify' way of life wil probably suck the the life out of the marriage evebtually. Tough choices to make.

Thank you Hooked1957.

Good read man good read.

She had an emotional affair. That's definitely cheating. The phone call was a greater crime than that even if they were getting divorced. All the comments about the not cheating doesn't make sense to me really.

Hahahaha! Fun read.

What a whack job the ex turned out to be.

mndhanson017mndhanson0175 months ago

I'm guessing that the daughter got over it and likely heard of the phone call that her mother had sent to her father of her having sex. That was likely a nail in the coffin, but they understand that she did cheat on him, it may not have been physically, but it was emotionally, and she's the only one that doesn't get it, whatever happened to Jim and Lisa, I think that's who his former neighbor's names, their story needs to be concluded as well.

mndhanson017mndhanson0175 months ago

To JordanFuller, he did talk and told her that he wouldn't allow it, she was the one ordering counseling in the divorce, if she wanted reconciliation, she shouldn't have gone to Dan, he got out because she distanced herself, it was clear that she was scheming with Lisa, so he got out before he could be cucked. You say talk first, he did, she just didn't listen, so she moved away and plotted, she got divorced again, so it's possible her and Dan or whoever that second husband was did not work out. She probably tried the same thing, she wanted to have her cake and eat it.

AnonymousAnonymous5 months ago

His wife went ahead and slept with her emotional affair partner, knowing it caused two breakups. She even had the balls to call him up during the act itself. That is not mild curiosity, that's an affair fog. She wasn't asking for permission, she was telling him how this would turn out. And she didn't care about his hurt/disapproval. She lied by omission for so long, so why wouldn't she lie at marriage therapy.

She's not some child. She could have ended things with her emotional affair partner, and that may have been a way back for her. Quit her job, something. She lied to her parents and child. So once again, did he overreact? If his wife felt any guilt or remorse than he did overreact But that's not her, she had an entitled attitude. Fear was making her agree, and that's not a healthy marriage. She would have cheated because she didn't care. Even years later she still blames him, and never said sorry for at the very least making him listen to her with her affair guy. That doesn't sound like a person that cares about someone they claim to love.

An average story, at best. Just one cliche after another. And, of course, like most other stories, a great deal of it takes place in a bar. Also, your editor missed a lot of mistakes. Might want to consider getting a new one. Maybe someone who knows the English language. 3*

AnonymousAnonymous5 months ago

Not sure that quick of a rebound would be good, but love stories where MC has character and a pair of balls. Dumping the first cheating skank slut was definitely the right move.

AnonymousAnonymous5 months ago

Given the wife's reaction to a lot of questions, and without the wife changing position 180 degrees, coming completely clean and doing a whole lot more to assure the MC there would be no affair and without Dan knowing the price would be unacceptably high, I think the MC had little other choice. I would probably do as he did- "OK, if you want him, you can have him, but not me." It would be nothing short of life altering to have your spouse tell you what the wife told MC.

AnonymousAnonymous5 months ago

The fact that someone "asks" permission (they're not really asking- they're going to do it anyway) is just so they can assuage their guilt, not be confronted about it (since they got permission) and not be branded a cheating whore to or by others because that is the couple's "arrangement".

AnonymousAnonymous5 months ago

Neither the whore nor Dan didn't suffer anywhere near what they should have.
