Honest Liar

She keeps speaking of how honest she is being. No. She didn't tell him about the affair until she was sure she was pregnant. He hasn't confronted her on that point. Adoption is an option. Instead of 'wondering where her child is ten years later', she will be wondering where her husband is, where the father is.

& she'll always be a cheating whore cause she liked it dump her out with the rest of the trash regardless of who the father really is.

Gooood Opener

Personally I would have to agree with his long speech. Perhaps it would have been better for her and the child if she kept her mouth shut for a few years when he would really know he was Dad even if he was not the biologic father. Knowing about it at this point puts him with the need to divorce her. The interesting thing is that in some States of the Union he will be legally the father and responsible independent of DNA evidence.... So I guess it would be better for me to become a migrant fruit picker!!! (in his shoes of course)

The story is very well written and the three characters interesting. On with the show! Oh yes, really the problem was that besides the constant remembrance there is the problem that she had no excuse for what she did.

So there is no guarantee that she won't do it again....

I think I'll wait until I read the whole story until I make my judgment.

So far the story is worth reading, a lot of strife in the lives of Rob and his wife.

It will be interesting to read what the author has in store for us.

Thanks

Wrong story

I must be reading a different story than a lot of the people who are commenting. Personally I like the story, the characters, and the flow of the writing. Lots of ways to go from here.

I didn't see this intro some mentioned, perhaps I missed it but I didn't see it at the start of the story.

JPB has said that he writes for a target audience of one, I hope he'll enlarge that bulls eye to include me. On with the story sir. Thanks for your hard work.

Good start

There is a line that can't be crossed in sexual relations. Most of us know where it is. Some of us play it very safe and never get near that line. Ellen has a strong libido and pushes much closer to the line. Rob even seems to like it. It's hot and makes for erotic situations. BUT the closer you dance to the line the more likely you are to step over it. Ellen did that and apparently has the low character to expect to get away with it. She planned never to tell Rob about it but was having a lot of problems with the guilt. We can never be sure where she would have gone with it if she hadn't gotten pregnant. That forced her hand. I find it overly "convenient" that she "forgot" she wasn't on birth control. She wasn't drunk or even super horny. She thought about having sex very rationally and decided she would do it and get away with it. And she never thought about birth control? Unlikely at best. A condom failure would have been a more acceptable explanation.

Now Rob is really messed up. I have always told myself that I could forgive my wife a one time drunken fling. I would be super pissed and might even go for some revenge sex but in the end could live with it if the rest of the marriage was strong. That is NOT what Ellen did. She made a very level headed decision to cheat on Rob for the thrill of it. Even her remorse is about HER. She is feeling guilty. It's making HER feel bad. She doesn't express her remorse in terms of the damage she has done to him except in a round about way. Her expectation is that he will simply get over it, like she had dented the car fender. She has NO appreciation for the depth of his pain. Her discussion about handling the child also reflects the same. No abortion, no adoption because SHE doesn't want it. He can just deal with it. I agree with Rob, facing her pregnant body and then seeing her love child would probably be too much for most men. It would be one of those "noble gestures" if he could accept the child but not a weakness if he couldn't.

So far it has all been presented as she expects it. She had sex when she wanted and is going to keep the child as she wants it. Rob is a distant third. Until that attitude changes and she comes to appreciate and respect him and their marriage and recognize the damage she has really done I don't see a real basis for reconciliation. I look forward to where JPB goes with it.

another Brillant analogy from the dingbat angiquesophie

all I did was express an opinion. Keep in mind this is not even a new story. Now she has me as Goebbels burning and banning books...

It is filled with JPB worst cliches... where the husband is in searing agony for month and months over what the wife did while she is fucking everything that moves....

then no reason.. and when you read it you will see... No reason ...takes her back even when she is with ANOTHER mans baby.

so at the end of part 3 the reader asks himself what the fuck is the point of this idiot story...

Just like on TV....

I don't mind stories that are in a series, yet each piece can stand alone. I really dislike those that leave a person hanging because just like on TV, I often end up missing the end. Maybe it is just me, but I am sitting here feeling like I bought a fairly good used book and the last few pages are missing. However reading the story, I see a wife that I don't like and a husband that I don't like, and even the girlfriend is not likeable. I didn't like Stu and I didn't even get to know him, the only one I like is the older Mom type at the Cafe. THAT is the one I would try to take home. Just as some others have mentioned, there are only a couple of places left to take this. Let's see if you can surprise us, please get to typing..

I enjoy this almost more than the story itself.

Woodmanone: The intro I mentioned is at the beginning at which Rob is moping with his x-word after suffering for six months and contemplating about having accepted Dixie's 'No' years ago without fighting.

At this stage I don't see any chance for Rob and Ellen to be a couple again. Jasonnh has summarized the reasons sufficiently, I think.

Harryinvh is playing advocatus diaboli, I suspect,

in order to heat up the discussion here.

His advice 'don't bother reading it' is an ancient

rhetorical device to get one's listeners / readers to

think or do the opposite of what one says (Brutus is an honourable man').

Admit it Harry, you're just JPB in disguise (and you

even confess to your 'worst clichés').

We won't stone you.

Grow Up!!!

Okay, the comments sent me to another site to find the whole story, which I've now read. Don't mean to sound wishy washy--or to give away my ultimate opinion of the whole story--but I will say that this is one of JPB's better story introductions. Granted, there's nothing new here; the wife getting knocked up with another man's baby has been done several times. Still, he sets it up well and it could go in so many different directions.

The most intriguing direction is the wife's character. No, I don't find Rob deplorable. To the contrary, he's boring. C'mon, give me a character with some quirky defects or a hidden dark side or something. Don't just give me a character with virtue and perfection; he's got nowhere to go in the story.

The wife, though? Oh my God, she's got a ton of potential, and it's all in subtle things. (I'm not sure JPB intended these, but they're there.) For instance, she's so calm when she tells Rob she's pregnant with someone else's baby. How could she not be a wreck? Later, when he returns to the home, she "put her book down" and talked to him. Again, Rob just found out from her, leaves for hours, returns, and she's reading a book? I've got to tell you, there's a ton of potential to make her either a monster or a . . . all right, a real monster. But it's set up so subtly in her demeanor that it's there from the beginning, whether she's cheated on him before or not.

And the Grow Up!!! title to this? I would only like to say that HarryinVA has proven time and again that he is capable of giving well thought critiques without outright insulting others. Calling Angiquesopie a dingbat is not, contrary to her protestation, a step up from the past. It is uncalled for and beneath all commentators. We're here to help authors improve their stories and get some free entertainment ourselves. This is not an appropriate forum to hurl insults at each other willy nilly. If you want that, watch the 24-hour news programs.

She wanted to feel the excitement of cheating???

So in other words, she had planned to cheat on her husband? And after that she wanted to ask Rob for forgiveness just because she 'loved' him, and to save the marriage ??? This are fu@ked-up premises and there won't be any conclusion in the end except divorce.

Okay, it wasn't great and it wasn't a nightmare

I've read the whole thing, and while I don't agree it's a "nightmare," it is also far from brilliant. It's ultimately convoluted and unsatisfying, and JPB just cannot use a comma, even if it means his life.

HarryinVA is right: this is a bad story.

On the other hand, Angieso, you *did* evoke the image of burning books. You *must* accept responsibility for that. Don't play the martyr.

Why are any of you surprised? JPB writes 99.1% wimp male/slut wife stories and any of the naive morons believe this one is going to be different are sadly mistaken.

Of course, they get back together- "reconciliation at any completely non-realistic cost" is a favorite theme and plot device of this author as well as those idiots like MattM and others. This slut goes to visit "Stu the stud" many times as she attempts to justify her "need to get laid". We guess what is most disturbing about this piss-poor submission is the fact that she blatantly lies to the "sorry-ass" excuse of a husband time and time again about how he is "supposed to be as good as Stu the stud" . Both main characters are complete losers and despicable at best. Funny, this story is like a "angie [the man hater] and JPB the wimp male character" getting together and collaborating this pathetic excuse of a story. Meanwhile, MattM is busy on his knees trying to justify this ridiculous event. By the way, the story completely sucked as posted on SOL - so why would it be different 4-6 months later on this mis-aligned story site?

SilverWolf78754SilverWolf78754about 14 years ago
Is she sure the Stu is the father of the baby?

From what Ellen told Rob, I doubt Stu is the father of the baby. Her morning sickness came on too quickly. That does start usually at least a month into the pregnancy. What if the baby is Rob's? What then?

Let's assume Ellen is telling the truth and this is the only time she cheated and she is truly remorseful and repentant of her deed? What then? Haven't you ever done something totally stupid with your eyes wide open? I am not advocating cheating and then no consequences for the cheating. How long do hold things over others? Can’t people learn from their past behavior? Would you like it if you were the one who cheated and you admitted your guilt, and then be totally rejected by the one you wronged years afterwards? When I read these stories, I try to put myself in both sides of story. Rob is justifies in being pissed off at Ellen and she should pay for what she did, but she was a person of enough moral character to be honest with Rob. That should account for something.

We will have to see how this all pans out, won’t we?

cpetecpeteabout 14 years ago
Its all about ME!!

Enjoyed the story so far and look forward to the next segment.

I agree with Jasonnah comments. JPB has set-up Ellen as having the world revolve aound her. SHE wanted sex from Stu. SHE wants to keep the kid, SHE wants Rob to give her a free pass-and heck why not. Ellen is in a win-win sitution for herself. If Rob accepts Ellens terms she can keep the kid and husband & happy life + do the cheating thing again at any time (forget the guilt-first time is always the most diffcult to betray ).

If Rob bails, Ellens gets alimony+ 1/2 the house, savings, etc, & tracks down Stu via her girlfriend (who knows Stu's friend) and get child support from Stu and BINGO life is good !

After all is all about what ELLEN wants !

DWornockDWornockalmost 13 years ago
I would have given it 5*****s.

However, since they were only apart for 6 days it is not possible that she would know that Stu was the father. She wasn't taking her temperture daily and sperm lives a number of days and the egg is viable for a couple of days. Therefore she would not know and the author failed to explain how it would be possible for her to know.

Therefore, since it is impossible, not just improbable, I had to give it 1*.

LordSlamdawggLordSlamdawggover 12 years ago
I ' m doing this backwards !

Read part 3 first . I enjoyed it throughly ; there was a Coen brothers unreal reality sensibility to it . Now here I am at the end of part one and the whole thing in the beginning is a little flat. Perhaps if the Stu character comes front & center in pt. 2 it will kink -start the story. He definitely livened things up in the third and last one.

the truth is women are not stupid, never have been, the hard fact is they do it all on purpose, all of it. The only problem for them is when a "man" does not do as he is told or react the way they want, so she has sex with A and wants B as the daddy, thats why women are freaking out, men are not marrying them, it seems we are getting close to sex bots(freedom) and most men now realize that since women can do what they want with there bodies we have the same rights.."I can fuck her with my cock but i dont have to put her ring on my finger or let her tell me what to do with my life". So no women are not stupid, but they think men are at all times. Don't believe me pay attention to media.

JPB did not give Ellen the proper guilt, sorrow, etc. The much lower score for chapter 3 tells me JPB pissed off a good portion of the readers. I'm betting it's because he chose to end this tale with reconciliation. Let's see if he can convince me that is appropriate.

Thoughts

And it didn’t occur to her to use a condom since she was off the Pill?

And as others have said, where was her "honesty" when she came home and didn't tell him about "Stu"?

If she truly loves him and wants to stay married she HAS to agree to an abortion. And, no, adoption ISN'T the answer for two reasons:

1) He still has to watch her belly grow for nine months as a constant reminder of her cheating.

2) No court would enforce any agreement to give up the baby if she decided to change her mind once the baby is born.

Tw0Cr0wsTw0Cr0wsalmost 9 years ago
why didn't she

Why didn't she take the morning after pill?

Or take several of her regular birth control pills?

(higher dosage works about the same as morning after)

Didn't care who the father is, didn't care about Rob's feelings.

She is too self centered and too thoughtless to be a keeper.

Plan B vs. evolutionary pressure

@sbrooks103x: since Denver is a big city in a purple state, Emergency Contraception should pretty available. She loses 1 cycle in her quest to get pregnant.

I think this narrative follows the "no story without this blunder" trajectory.

On the other side, I think both literature and anecdotal evidence indicate that women's desire peaks pretty near ovulation, which would be evolutionarily advantageous for the DNA of the woman, if not culturally advised for the woman herself.

As with most of these type of stories for me the man that knowingly seduced a married women deserves far more punishment than the women does. If this story was real life I wouldn't blame Rob for divorcing Ellen. As he says, seeing Ellen's stomach grow with any man's child would be to much to bare.
