"How about Rhisser? Does that name ring any bells?" Jack asked in a quiet even voice.

Miller shook his head but Danny looked hard at Jack. "He doesn't race anymore. He retired. They say he lost his nerve."

"Don't believe everything, "they" say," Jack said as he turned toward the racecar.

"Who the hell is Rhisser?" Miller asked.

"Robert "Tex" Rhisser," Danny said as he started to walk away. "Three time world sprint car champion, six time dirt late model national champion, three time national stock car champion."

Miller looked at Danny. "Huh? That old man?"

Danny ignored him and said, "Hey Jack, let a little air out of the right rear and change the shock. I think I need to take a few more laps. There's a new line I want to try."

Tuning - I Learned A Lot about Dirt Racing

Nice Piece and Moral! Learn from your elders. As usual, well written. Thanks for the story.

Great story but with some small warts

As a car guy, I liked the story and could relate to it fully. As a published author, however, I only gave it 75% because of the punctuation and spelling errors. Let me recommend "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" by Lynne Truss so you can find out where the mechanics of the story (no pun intended) went wrong.

Nostalgia

This is one of the best stories I have ever read on this site. It brought back fond memories of building and crewing race cars. Your description of chassis set-up and track conditions was great, nothing wrong with the dialog either.

Thanks for a great story.
