The premise is great, and I would absolutely love to read a story that really lets us know these characters, see them interact, feel the illicit passion of that random encounter and the weirdness of going back to that status quo ante afterwards. Unfortunately this is not that story yet. Way too much of it is an essay on contemporary politics -- the kinds of details which could be much more economically conveyed by *showing* us even just a little snippet of the kinds of racist ignorance being described instead of *telling* us -- and too little of it is really about the characters and their relationship. But I would urge you to take another run at it.
