This could have been a true story. My mom got married on her 80th birthday and for the next 10 1/2 years were truly happy. They met ballroom dancing and continued until the last 4 months of his life.
I enjoyed your writing and the story.
Thanks
Being older and single, I appreciate the problems that occur and the feelings that run through one's mind, both alone and with a lady friend. This was not only well done but insightful as well. Thank you.
I love all your stories, and this one is no exception. Keep on writing such great stuff.
thank you for this story, i`ve read many of your works and this like the others was outstanding, thx from georgia
story told by a Master. A story about older folks with love in their hearts and the love of their families is most refreshing. I enjoyed your story.
One of my favorite 'Ol Blue Eyes' songs would of fit well with John and his first wife.
It was a very good story but Nora reconsiled with her son a little to easily. And Spam and eggs are great. Try it on Sundays in a crustless quiche with onions, peppers, and cellery.
This one worked out well. Anytime a story gets to me emotionally, I consider it a good one. Wish them a long and happy life.
"regrets he had a few" but he also "did it his way" (can you tell I liked and miss Old Blue Eyes).. Music tells us so much about life if we'd only really listen. Great story and to another 'old f..t" emotionally gripping. I hope to someday find my "Nora".
Well, another "ole blue eyes" fan for sure, but it was a good well told story as well. As usual you did an excellent job with it.
Beautifully conceived, beautifully executed! The welter of modern-day family relationships -- his/hers/theirs -- is examined with extraordinary tenderness and sensitivity. And how charmingly you wove in the elements of the Frank Sinatra standard! Please don't give up.
One of the best "romantic" stories I have read. A great blend of life, love and sex. Very well written.
DG Hear, you know you are one of the best authors ever. You proved it with this story once more. I couldn't hold back my tears. I don't want to admit it but this is my first comment on one of your stories. Don't get angry I do blame myself for this horrible mistake.
One of your fans in Germany
I enjoyed the way you worked the songs into the story. The pace fit the content and the "age-group" of the characters. Thank you.
You have a wonderfully gentle voice for telling these stories. Thanks, and keep writing!!!

DGH,
Great story certainly well told.
Thanks for sharing on Lit.

Are you reading the same disjointed goofy story that I quit reading on chapter two?
Loved your story!!! Keep them coming!!
I don't know how you feel about it DGH but I consider it gutless when someone makes an anonymous comment like the 1 0 comment below. There wasn't even an explanation. Oh well ... as you can imagine, I liked this one. I was disappointed by the cheating on his deceased wife when he falsely interpreted the scene in their home, and then never confessed his infidelity. But all in all, an enjoyable read. Thanks
As an older reader, I can only hope that I can find love again now that my wife of 42 years has passed on. I miss her so very much. Thanks for a lovely story.
if u are gonna post a comment you should atleast have the guts to put ur name on it
I read a lot of LW stories that are about cheating wives, and I generally enjoy them. I read romance for a change of pace, and this romance was for me a delight. Thank you so much. BTW, it would have worked as well without the sprinkling of hundreds of thousands of dollars on the children. 5 stars.
I love the story!
I'm amused, though, by stories like this one where people give large sums of money to relatives (or strangers, for that matter) with no consideration of the tax consequences. In the US, it's expensive and/or cumbersome to (legally) give more than $13,000 a year to a single recipient. I know I'm a spolisport, but that's the sad fact of the matter on big gifts.
Just put this back in you mind somewhere to remember: just because you are getting older does not mean the end of love both physically and mentally. Communication, understanding and loving one another are the keys to a wonderful older life.
Wonderful story about love that knows no age. How great is it that they could both find someone to heal their heart
There was the one point where he commented how he remembered what "Mary did" when he saw Nora hug her brother Max so there is an open question - but it is not truly part of this story
Nicely done -
I did not go back to check - it would not make much difference - BUT for continuity sake was a daughter of his named Amber too? It seemed like he got his vasectomy after Amber was born?? not sure and as I said not caring enough to double check it.
Where fantasy becomes close to real life. This story is so close to my real life experience it's incredible it's fantasy but beautifully imagined and written.
i stop reading after the first page. he cheat on mary but he doesnt come clean, and they still together till mary die. what a fuck up john is. if only you remove the part he cheat on mary, this would be a great read
if you didn't like it why did you go to all the trouble to make snide remarks?
or
are you doing this to be a fool and a troll -- sorry you lose on all three
This guy, DG Hear, is one of the best romance writers around. When he writes a romance story, I read it. I don't dissect a story, I either like it or I don't like it. And I like this guy's romances. Thank you for writing such heart-warming stories.
Moving and wonderful...The best story I have read in a long time.
I know it a nit, and something repeated quite often by others, but ... drum roll (lol)
He referred to his daughterS-in-law as daughter-in-lawS. The daughters are plural and not law.
Otherwise, it was a fabulous and enjoyable story.
(ok, I confess! I had a freshman English writing class where I was corrected on the useage and it stayed with me. One of the few of my many error corrections that lasted all these years.)
Dear Author, Very nice job of story weaving. Great characters and plot with a happy ending for all. You did good. Be proud! Thank you for the very enjoyable read. jntiques
This is, without a doubt, one of DG Hear's best stories. My second time through it and I think I enjoyed it more this time than the first. A 5 Star story, no doubt.
WOW! What a great story. I've read many of your stories, and there isn't an average one in the bunch. Few rate 4 stars. Most are excellent at 5 stars, and this one is as good as they get. Absolutely Wonderful. You are truly an artist of your trade! CC
A masterpiece. I was married for 30 years and than divorced. I was single for 10 years and e-Harmony found me a new wife. We have been married a dozen years already and I could not be happier. So this story hit home or very close to it. Great job. Thank you DGH.
2 rating scales of 5* each, end-to-end.

"Love is lovelier the second time around,
Just as wonderful with both feet on the ground."
.
That's another Frank Sinatra song.

Great story! 5*
Great story, I felt his regrets with his wife Mary after her death. He did a horrible thing to her by sleeping with that bar fly, but when someone you love betrays you like he thought she did, it could force you to terrible actions. But he loved her until the end and then found another great love once again.
