To be honest I had just about given up on this story. Hope this is you back on track. And quite the cliff hanger, btw.

And I voted for this cliffhanger. I hate cliffhangers, however I couldn't wait any longer. :D

Good chapter, I liked how you explained getting through the ward but the some of the tree stuff was kind of confusing to read

My original intent was to wrap up the entire thing, and not leave it hanging like this. Unfortunately, it was just getting too long. The dinner with everyone, and how much came out of Michelle meeting Karen was just too good. Then the whole sequence with Tani'm and the military was pretty awesome, so had to go into detail there. Finally Andrew discovering the gate, and all the unexpected reveals about Tani'm's house, Andrew's gift and how subtle and devious those protection wards are.

Everything was just too good, and while I wanted to keep things short, new things kept coming up. Eventually it was almost 100 pages in google docs, and I knew I was a long ways from wrapping everything up, so I decided to ask my patrons if I should split it, or wait another long time.

The good thing with this is that I can go into more detail in the conclusion. Add a couple of asides to see how other players in the world are doing, not be afraid of diving into detail on events as they unfold.

Hope everyone enjoys it. I felt bad about how long I was away, but after that work push I was dead, and no longer had a connection to the story. It took me a while to find my voice, and a lot of re-writing to get even close to the tone I used to have.

I said it on Patreon, but I will say it here as well, thank you all for your patience and understanding while I got through everything.

Don't know if this was a continuity error or they're both just named Frank, but is Frank Florentine the same person as PFC Frank Ford from Chapter 19?

I haven’t binged on this like many of the recent readers have, but have savored and looked forward to it. I check in every so often hoping I had just missed seeing it’s title run by, but sadly not. Please, I hope a ne chapter comes soon, and not just the darkness that we lay in as we await.

I so want this to continue. For anyone else wanting more, chapter 22 is available for download on the Authors Patreon page (for free) since March, but not much news since then. I hope it doesn't end up abandoned.

Very well-written story. Unfortunately, the story has been abandoned by the author. Despite the tremendous letdown of stopping only about halfway to completion, it was worth the read (mostly). So disappointed...

Panther is alive, he has recently left a comment on his patreon explaining things, he is in a fun but has not forgotten the story but can't get in the right mindspace. Ch. 22 is available there as well, so just hold out hope, or go read three square meals if you haven't yet, that will keep you busy for a while.

Can anyone tell my why there are so many good writers here but they all seem to leave their stories unfinished ? This was a great story well written and very fun to read but here we are again left unfinished ? So sad.

I keep telling myself to read the last chapter first to find out if the story is finished but I never do. Spent two days reading this only to find out it isn't done. The Tefler story is also great but he has slowed down his writing.

According to his patreon in the comments of the last post he gave an update in May 2021 saying he was still working on it but had to move houses as well as deal with covid stuff, if I remember correctly

This is the pitfall of amateur story websites, great stories fall prey to real life. I join you all in hoping that this author returns to finish this tale.

Last post from him on patreon was Ch. 22 pt 1&2 and talking about it in early to mid 2019. Last comment from him is "2yrs+" old as of Nov 28 2022, saying he was selling houses and depressed so he hadn't gotten much if any writing done during lockdown.

I've checked every few months for an update for the past 3 years, but it's gotten longer and longer between checks. Now I only check when I remember and curiosity gets the best of me which is usually at least 6-8+months now. I liked the story but with not even a courtesy update in 2+yrs unless something changes I think it's done.

Hope he's doing well at least.
