This was more like those Westerns than a detective story, but I suppose that getting the hero out of the big city changed the people around him. One thing is that I found it hard to believe that Jessica gave up Chicago and that he refused to leave St. Louis for her.
another enjoyable excellent chapter in the continueing saga of The Crusader i hope you do continue to post more chapters in this story
And unlike Bruce22, I paid enough attention to your development of the characters of Rollie and Jessica during the previous four chapters to understand why she would find the reality of the Chicago appointment wanting and return, while at the same time Rollie's skills/knowledge/contacts as an ex-cop/private investigator weren't transferable to Chicago - both reasons clearly restated in this chapter.

Please keep the story going. I'd like to see Tully come back, maybe he would miss working with Rollie.
I have read every one of your stories and they are all very good but this one is GREAT! Keep up the great work!
Man I love your work, you are one fantastic writer. Keep'em comin.
I'm on chapter 5 and I'm really enjoying the characters even the peripheral ones like the guy that owns the Italian restaurant .
