There was no mention of male dragons. So in this universe all dragons are the progeny of a human male and a female dragon? Interesting. As to the anachronism of the minefield , this is a world of magic , who's to say they don't have magic tripped mines? The queen set explosive traps for the dragonslayers ,you could call those mines.

A good story. You might add another chapter (or two) about Stephanie and what becomes of her. She cann't just disappear from the castle/keep.
