I found

so many contradictions, it makes the story barely readable.

For example - this Marla thingie is sooo old and soooo smart - yet she/he didn't thought about changing schools for her lover. What is the point going to a cheap school with old acquaintances, when you can afford the best new one?

Or the moment where Jessica returns to the dormitory. If she feels so "adult", why is she acting like a spoiled teenager? Someone utters a single word - and she's in tears. Yep, sooo adult. Sorry, but this is the end for me.
