More depth is needed

If he changed his mind, got to know Jacques, feel in love with him, ran away with him, protected him, taught him, supported him... I could get into the story much more.

Not Controlled by HEA

All of your suggestions for more depth are for happy endings, anonymous. Sorry, but I don't think that shows much depth. I use HEA when the story points in that direction. The French Revolution wasn't that simplistic, saccharine, or Hollywood. Maybe you need to be a deeper reader.
