I understand from the setup that you were writing about a guy with low self-esteem kissing his wife's ass because he thinks he doesnt deserve her, but that doesnt make for very good fiction imo. Since it is fiction, you could have just as easily wrote about a guy who had the blinkers removed after having his wife's character and her lack of respect/love for him shoved in his face. He could have given up of trying to maintain a sick relationship with a person who seems to agree that she was too good for him and wasnt above taking advantage of that. Spending his entire married life kissing ass and bending over backwards to dismiss the wife's actions seems more tiring than loving to me. <p><p>

ill. It is one thing to be a person with a temper and to get even, it is quite another to take simple actions and use them to create scenes that will destroy your marriage. You can sum it up by saying, "What's good for the goose is good for the gander." But this would be false. I do believe men and women do have the same rights, but their roles in sex are not symmetric. I'll cite you an example. When I was 23 or 24 I spent one evening in a hotel bar drinking with friends. One was a woman who'd I'd met and known for just 3 or 4 days. I had no intention of doing anything with her and didn't think she had any kind of desire for me. In fact, I'd bumped into her the day before going to lunch and suggested we eat together. She went off to the restaurant and in the meantime I was interrupted by a friend. This was before cell phones became common, but I probably wouldn't have had her number anyway. The short of it was I didn't show up for the date and went off to help my friend. The "date" was so casual and so low key that I didn't even think about it. Well, the evening we were drinking together she gave me hell about it. I apologized and explained but she still looked pissed. And I looked like I didn't care if she was pissed or not. Well guess what happened? At the end of the evening she invited me to go to bed with her. I didn't see it coming and didn't know how to refuse. So I went with her.

It's kind of like what happened in the story. The husband didn't want to be unfaithful, hadn't planned on it, and didn't make a pass at her. In the normal course of events he would have gone home alone to his wife. Men aren't usually propositioned like this and are frequently taken unawares. Women are never taken unawares and are always prepared for a pass. Sometimes they accept, but most times not. However, men aren't prepared. Afterward, they know what they should have done, but often they didn't do it. I'm not saying it's right. I'm just saying it's very plausible for a man who loves his wife to be tricked like this. Once. Not twice.

So if his wife really set him up, she should shoulder most of the blame. If we would reverse the rolls in my story and in the authors, it's different. Do you know any good looking girls who go out with a couple of friends who don't get propositioned? They're used to it and totally prepared to say no.
