I actually really like it. It's right back to square one with poor/insanely lucky Gretel and the story hits the ground running letting me know just that. That and the fact that he's probably still a little mundfucked so waking up and feeling like the days have blended together works. My only nitpick... He should have stayed with the lamia, he was her husband goddammit! (I fucking love lamias)
