I am a big fan of JPB stories...at least in the genre's I like. His writing is always crisp, one thing follows another, this dialogue and characters sound 'real'...except.

Except when they are saying incredibly stupid things.

Now, I can see a woman rationalizing her 'bit on the side'. I can see her stating that she is 'farming out' some of hubby's sexual responsibilities, because he isn't black/hung/a different man etc. While immoral and hurtful, it isn't irrational.

Here...the wife is just plain stupid. Bob even has Stephanie admit this. Now...I get that people do incredibly stupid things. But as a writer, when that is the main motivation and it's totally contradictory, I as a reader don't buy it.

I've read a lot of JPB stories both good and bad. This one was really bad.

I really didn’t like the storyline much. The last 2 paragraphs had some redeeming value. Otherwise, my take is simply that it doesn’t matter how convincing she is, you don’t do anything remotely sexual with your friends’ wives. If you’re really a friend, you tell him immediately, then step back and wait for the aftermath.

Unfinished again. There are lots of your stories that are good then at the end you leave us hanging. Perhaps you could revisit some as they are years old and create endings to complete the stories.

Another somewhat common theme with JPB - "I didn't tell you because I've known her longer" or "... I'm more her friend than yours."

Which is then followed by having the story end with him basically saying:

"Lets get together because even though you've demonstrated that you condone adultery as well as considering me simply too low on the totem pole to give a shit about we should hook up".

The last part with Stephanie gave the potential for a great ending where Heidi has to eat her heart out over losing the love of her life to her best friend but, unfortunately like so many JPB endings it just stops there.

Very hard to believe that someone could be so stupid, but at the same time have someone love and respect them. I guess, as Stephanie said, he just didn't have a clue who his wife really was, just as she didn't know who he really was. Kind of pathetic when you think about it.
