Again, I get what I come to recognize as this poet’s signature: the mix of educated wisdom together with the perfectly messy turmoil of real life. Here it’s that of a man suffering for his love. I advised elsewhere to take consolation in the words of the poet L. Aragon (much more familiar from the song by Georges Brassens: “There are no happy loves”).
