I look through the window of the world
Grubby little boys playing softball in the mud
Fat women on the beach, stuffing their faces
Lovers walking hand in hand, contented hearts
and an ancient form through the glass door
I wonder about that wizened visage
Is she watching me as I am watching her?
Another Eleanor Rigby, perhaps?
And whose face is she wearing today?
The thoughts are fleeting as my steps quicken
away from death, towards the gentle light
Where the grubby little boys are arguing
a double, or a triple?
And the fat women laugh as their cheeks jiggle
hamburger juice trickling down double chins
As the lovers gaze contentedly
into each others eyes
contemplating the universe
But I can still hear the sirens' song
the long sigh, the silent scream
and in my heart, my heaving heart
I know full well
I will return...
What a wonderful way of viewing your surroundings. The world as a window. The many varied things to be looked at, examined and comtemplated. Beautiful with rich images.
Oh, this is good, sack! I was right there with you. Great poetry!
I really like these lines:
And the fat women laugh as their cheeks jiggle
hamburger juice trickling down double chins
What an image, and an awesome ending! What I'd call a killer one! Well done!
gave me such mixed emotions. I smiled, I laughed and then I felt sad. I had such a tugging in my heart...
