"I think so. Why do you keep saying, 'God?' Do you have only one on your world?"
"I don't know. It's just how I think. How many Gods are there?"
"I know of 17 and there may be more."
Garth and H'Renith walked back in. Garth took Amber down from the chains and refastened the cuffs behind her back. The leash was reattached.
"Come along Amber. We need to clean you up and continue with your orientation."
A motion of the leash started Amber walking. There was much to show her and little of today's events would be pleasant or enjoyable for her.

Anonymousabout 5 years agoI think you misunderstood what the comment you complained about was saying. It’s an intellectual statement.
SLAVERY IS WRONG. If someone freely chooses to submit as a slave it’s another matter entirely. It’s obvious that these people understand that slavery is wrong because it is only applicable to aliens, quite literally those not born on the home world. If they truly believed that there was nothing wrong with slavery then a slave’s planet of origin would be irrelevant. The society in question does not support free will as evidenced by the statement on suicide.
Human Trafficking or Modern Slavery IS a real issue here and now, so despite the fact that the story is an obvious fantasy some people have problems separating the issues. Some times it really bugs me too and sometimes I can ignore it.
An option of slavery or death isn’t an option and to claim that a magical or technological device can determine true intent is absolute bollocks? Intent and desire can vary on a minute to minute basis, subject to a vast range of external factors Personally I found it hard to read without thinking about the Eddie Izzard sketch ‘Cake or Death’.
If the choice was slavery or freedom the answers would be very different. The story claims it’s a choice, what would your answer be? Not that it would matter because they could easily claim that device shows your true choice = the opposite of what you stated. People are more than their sexual fantasies, their libido might spark at sexual slavery but the mind is usually the stronger influence.
Therefore the reality in this instance is that its brainwashing/ conditioning/ grooming (of which the last is a horrendous trigger word for me), in doing all of these things you loose the individuality of the person literally destroying their minds, suddenly everyone is a pain slut? Uh, no not really. By the end of the process I expect that most of them are compliant slaves.
The story is interesting from an intellectual point of view, I hope those who choose to read it enjoy it. I certainly enjoyed aspects of it. It’s a difficult topic to write about and I certainly appreciate that you’ve done so as a fantasy - in this case fantasy being defined as sci-fi.

Dryhillalmost 13 years agoFrom this first chapter it looks as though this is going to be a really good read. A little more characterization and Amber's emotions would be good, but it is still early in the story.
